On Friday, Jan. 24, Notre Dame’s Diversity Council and Facing History leadership group held their annual Diversity Showcase in Julie Billiart Hall (JB Hall). This eventful evening featured an art gallery, a night market and lively performances from various ND affinity and cultural clubs. To kick off this celebration, students were even encouraged to wear their cultural attire to school.
Third Street Café and the Learning Commons were filled with student-hosted tables where many sold their foods, baked goods, jewelry and other handmade products. For the second time, Jane ’26 and Danica ’26 hosted a booth for their jewelry business Amity Accessories.
Jane ’26 described “It’s really nice to interact with other students, teachers and faculty outside of a classroom setting. Being able to display and share our small business with them makes the connection meaningful as our creativity is shown through our accessories and jewelry.”
As the night progressed, families, friends, and students gathered in JB Hall to watch the showcase that featured a fashion show, spoken word and dances from groups such as the Filipino Student Association, Latinas Unidas, and SASA.
One of the performers, Magan ’27, danced with the Polynesian Student Association and Vietnamese Student Association. She shares “To be honest, I was scared that people would judge me or my culture. After, however, it felt so nice to embrace my culture and see that everyone enjoyed our unique, traditional dances. I can’t wait to dance with PSA and VSA again next year!”
After the event, Religious Studies teacher, Deidre Savino, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to all the students who made this night unforgettable. “Thank you all for the hard work that went into making last Friday so fabulous! It was an evening of beauty, culture, fun, rowdy applause and cheering, and gorgeous skill!”
