Some schools have animal mascots but Notre Dame has its very own campus cat. Ben Ben is a much-loved black cat that has made ND home. He is known for stealing everyone's hearts (and attention) when he struts by during break, lunch, or around campus in general. You can often see teachers removing Ben Ben from hallways and the gym when he comes to take a peak during classes. “He is amazing and he loves the attention,” says sophomore Aramina Ziazadeh. Ben Ben is so popular at Notre Dame that an instagram account was started on his behalf, posting pictures of students with Ben Ben or Ben Ben just roaming around. The mystery has gotten so big as to who is running the account that Homeroom classes are conspiring ideas of who it could be. Right now the guess lies heavily with the sophomores but people are starting to suspect a freshman. Almost everyone on campus loves Ben Ben and some even say “Ben Ben is God” - from an anonymous student. We are lucky to have had Ben Ben with us and hope students continue to love him.
Fun Fact: This year the sophomores sold Ben Ben stickers during the class sales for Fund the Future. They ended up getting a whooping $511.48 so congratulations to them!
