In Steve Herrera's World Religions class, students are studying Hinduism. Their guest speaker was Dr. Jyothi Lulla introduced key ideas about Hinduism to the class.
Dr. Jyothi Lulla is a retired Kaiser Physician, specializing in allergy, immunology, and pediatric lung diseases. She has clinical pastoral education, is a certified Dharma Ambassador by Hindu American Foundation and is a certified speaker at Islamic Network Group. She has attended extended classes in Hindu scriptures at the Vedanta society and the Chinmaya Mission and has been a coordinator of the Gandhi Youth camp, which promotes Gandhian values of peace and nonviolence. She is also a board member of the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council and a pioneer of “Sukham”, an organization addressing ageing issues and community needs.
As a follow up, two students in the class volunteered to apply henna to the hands of their classmates as they learned about this wonderful cultural tradition.
